Why are my results "hit-or-miss"?

Aicono uses AI models to group and arrange icons. The default model is lightweight and works offline, but may not always classify every icon perfectly, especially for less common applications. Advanced users can connect larger or custom models for improved accuracy, but this may require more system resources.

• Offline & Free (Default): The built-in model (~806MB) is downloaded on first run and works fully offline. It is fast, but may sometimes mislabel complex icons as "Miscellaneous."
• Custom Models: For improved results, Aicono can connect to local services (like Ollama or Llama), OpenAI-compatible servers, or download larger models from Hugging Face.

Note: Larger models can provide better grouping, but require more memory and processing power.

Manual Fine-Tuning & Fallback

If the AI does not classify an icon as desired, or if no model is available, you can adjust the results manually:

1. Fine-tune AI results: After each run, Aicono saves the grouping in icon_groups_cache.json. You can edit this file to move icons between groups. Your changes will be used until you clear the cache.
2. Manual fallback: If no AI is available, you can create icon_groups_cache.json from scratch and define all groups manually. The app will use your structure.

Aicono is a powerful tool with many controls. Like any good tool, it's designed to give you the power to find your own perfect, individual result. Here are two key tips to get started.

1. ⚠️ REQUIRED: Disable Windows "Auto-Arrange"

Aicono needs full control to move your icons. If Windows is also trying to manage them, your layout will break or won't apply correctly.

To check this: Right-click your Desktop > go to "View" > and make sure "Auto-arrange icons" is UNCHECKED. ✅

2. 📐 Balancing Your Working Area and Layout Controls

Think of the "Working Area" as a "sandbox" 🖼️ or a "fence" to contain your icons. Its only job is to ensure icons don't go outside the boundaries you set.

All the other controls 🎛️—like "Grid Density", "Gaps", and "Spacing"—determine how your icon groups will fit inside that sandbox.

There is no single "right" setting! The best layout is a balance between the size of your sandbox and the layout controls you choose. If things look cramped 😖, try giving them more room (a larger area ↔️) or tightening up the spacing (a smaller gap ↕️).

🛠️ Manual Configuration & Fine-Tuning (Fallback)

This section explains how to use the icon_groups_cache.json file. This file has two primary purposes:

1. Fine-Tuning AI Results (Most Common Use): After the AI runs, it saves its results to this file. If the AI miscategorizes an icon (e.g., puts Steam in Work), you can simply open icon_groups_cache.json and move the item from the Work group to the Games group. Aicono will use your corrected file from then on (until you click Clear Cache & Reload).
2. Complete Manual Fallback: If you have no AI model configured or are offline, you can create this file from scratch to define all your groups manually. The rest of this guide explains the file structure for this purpose.
